Le Touquet

Le Touquet - Histoire et atouts de la station

Origins of Le Touquet

Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Daloz purchased a 1,600-hectare plot of land and planted 800 hectares of maritime pines, poplars, and alders. He built a beautiful property, Le Château, a kind of hunting lodge. In 1874, one of his friends visited him and suggested the idea of a seaside resort called « Paris-Plage. » This man had a flair for catchy names: he was none other than Hippolyte de Villemessant, the founding editor-in-chief of Le Figaro. And so, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage was born.

A Protected Natural Area

Between the coastline and the forest, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage offers a privileged setting for your holidays all year round. If Le Touquet could be summed up by one feature, it would undoubtedly be its beach. This natural gem, an immense 11-kilometer stretch of fine sand, stretches as far as the eye can see. It forms a natural link between the Bay of Canche to the north and the neighboring resort of Stella-Plage to the south. The Réserve Naturelle Nationale de la Baie de Canche is a protected natural reserve covering 505 hectares, a prime location for observing local wildlife and flora, including birds, seals, and more.
